About ThinkPlace
Our clients describe ThinkPlace as a unique consulting firm. We are a social-purpose business. We love Aotearoa, and we exist to support others to make it thrive, equitable, and sustainable. Our mission is to enable our partners to unlock the lasting changes they are trying to achieve.

We have a passion for understanding the needs of people, and we want to transform the systems around us, a vision that has driven us since our inception in Aotearoa in 2008 and reflects in our legacy of work.

We build and practice cultural humility and learning; our aim is to uplift and honour the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We practice te reo Māori, sing waiata together, and we learn how to work in ways that affirm and uplift diverse community groups.

We strive to make the workplace one that is inclusive and that supports people to do their best work.

ThinkPlace Graduate Programme 2023

As a Designer in the Graduate Programme, your first year at ThinkPlace will expose you to a wide range of projects.

You will attend our 12-week induction and learning programme to help you build and develop your understanding of the tools and knowledge we use to tackle complex design challenges.

This programme is guided by senior ThinkPlace people and attended by ThinkPlace graduates from our international studios.

Who are we looking for?

We want
two Graduate Designers (one in Pōneke and one in Tāmaki Makaurau) who are passionate, optimistic, and enthusiastic about a range of new experiences and who relish the opportunity to tackle complex challenges.

You will work across many projects and utilise a variety of skills.

However, to give a sense of who should apply, we are interested in the following backgrounds and areas of study:

-
Visual design graduates to visualise the future for minds and hearts. Background in graphic design, arts, or related fields. Exposure to visualising complex qualitative and quantitative data in beautiful and accessible ways through design tools such as InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite.
-
Other types of graduates complement our multi-disciplinary team. For example, research/ethnography, industrial design, service design, digital experience design, and business design. We are also interested in hearing from those without a degree or formal design training but who have tactical experience in design practices. To turn powerful insights into products, services or strategic solutions which address some of New Zealand's most complex challenges.

What will you bring?

Integrity:
You are unwaveringly ethical and have the highest integrity, maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity in all your dealings.

Empathy:
You seek to understand the perspectives of others and are caring and compassionate in your interactions. You are excited to share your unique skills and experience and learn from others.

Communication:
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an uncompromising eye for detail.

Tertiary qualification (or equivalent):

You will have a qualification that complements ThinkPlace's strategic goals (or have equivalent practical experience).

Why would you want to work at ThinkPlace NZ? What makes us different?

  • A caring group of intelligent, inspiring colleagues who continually want to learn more about the world we live in.
  • Flexible working arrangements from office and home
  • Regular learning sessions enable team members to share and continuously learn from each other.
  • Challenging work and the ability to learn many new skills.
  • A workplace that is committed to having meaningful discussions about improving cultural awareness and humility.
  • A supportive environment for developing careers backed by processes and resources.
  • A team that is reaching beyond the standard design thinking approaches and methodologies to embrace the complexity of creating change in Aotearoa.
  • A small team with inspiring workspaces that we have made our own.
  • A commitment to help each other do the best work. We want to see each other succeed and grow our talents and do so by providing highperformance support and a strong focus on employee experience.

To be eligible for the 2024 programme, you must:

  • Have completed a tertiary degree no more than two years prior to the Graduate Programme start date and be available to assume a full-time role starting February 2023 or be able to demonstrate equivalent recent practical experience.

There are two ways to apply:

  • Submit a short covering letter that lets us know what you are capable of, what you are about (passions, interests, etc.) and tell us why you would like to work with ThinkPlace (1-page max)
  • Submit a resume that shows all your voluntary, academic, work, and other experience (2 pages max)
  • Submit a portfolio or examples of your best work (10 pages or 10 mi
