Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

The purpose of this role within New Zealand Food Safety Verification Services is to provide a range of food safety, animal welfare and biosecurity verification and certification services based at meat exporting premises.

To support the meat industry and New Zealand's reputation in the world red meat market for the product produced and to ensure food safety and export standards are being followed by the premises.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys problem solving and enhancing their relationships with others with effective communication.

The role is varied, and your day will be filled with the following:

  • Collaborate well with internal and external stakeholders, such as meat works personnel, Veterinary colleagues/VS team
  • Verify that requirements and procedures are being followed
  • Provide certification for animal meat exports
  • Complete ante mortem inspections and occasionally provide judgement on postmortem inspection
  • Maintain knowledge within the farming communities and be involved in on farm verification
  • Ensure animal welfare is being maintained.
We have ongoing, on-site training, mentoring and technical support for you in your new role.
Mōu - About You

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • To be a qualified and registered Veterinarian
  • Experience communicating effectively with a range of different stakeholders
  • Experience working in an environment where organisational skills are essential
  • An understanding of basic food technology or quality assurance principles would be an advantage

The Team Manager Establishment for Manawatu is looking for a NZ registered Veterinarian to join the team in a Veterinary Technical Supervisor 2 role based at AFFCO New Zealand - Manawatu Plant (ME32).

The role sits within the Establishment group of the Verification Services directorate.

MPI Verification Services (MPI VS) provides a range of food safety and biosecurity verification and certification services to support market access strategies and setting standards.

It is located 5 minutes away from Feilding or 16 kms north of Palmerston North just off State Highway 54.

Feilding has won the annual New Zealand's Most Beautiful Town award 15 times, which makes it a very pleasant place to live.

The stunning Edwardian themed town greets you with red-bricked pavements, stunning flowerbeds, and a warm elegance.

The small-town atmosphere offers an escape from the hustle and bustle, where walking into shops you are met with a friendly smile, and the kind hospitality that has earned this town the label of 'Friendly Feilding'.

As the VTS2, you will be working closely with a supportive and experienced VTS1, and a regional team of 20 veterinarians reporting to the Team Manager.

Hours of work will mainly be nightshifts (1.30am finish) from Monday to Friday on a 5x8 pattern.

Any overtime is compensated and early starts, or late finishes are recognised with penal time payments, as well as shift leave accumulation.
