_Mō te tūnga | About the role_


Join the team in Ward B3/SARA and you will become part of a cohesive and friendly MDT that cares for patients undergoing acute general surgery and a range of oesophageal, gastric and biliary/pancreatic surgery including advanced laparoscopic procedures.

Our average length of stay is 3.8 days.

We area a busy inpatient ward and use CCDM and acuity variance indicators to assess the nurse to patient ratio.


Our unit also houses SARA (Surgical Assessment Review Area) which provides an area for acutely unwell patients to be assessed, investigated and an appropriate plan of care to be initiated.

This 12-bed unit is a fast paced unit with an average length of stay of 7hours. We see on average 730 patients per month. We accept direct GP-SARA admission as well as admission from our ED department, private and rural Hospitals.


We are open 24/7 and shifts are 8hrs long , and All nurses are required to work all shift across all days based on a social roster.

Set days and shift are unable to be assigned. For our permanent roles we are looking for someone who is wanting to stay 2+ years.

Our parental leave roles may have the possibility of extending if you wish pending vacancies at the time your contract ends.

We are unable to offer relocation cost as this time.

We are looking for experienced nurses who will enjoy becoming part of our dynamic and supportive team.

  • This fastpaced challenging environment will offer you variety in your day as you will rotate between the ward and SARA, working closely with all the general surgical team.
  • Motivated, with a mature attitude and organised approach, you will be flexible and adaptable in this ever changing, fast paced environment.
  • The ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, will be key to your success in this role.
  • A current New Zealand Annual practicing certificate is required
  • A current VISA is required for this role if you are not a New Zealand permanent resident.
