About the opportunity

This is an exciting time to join our dynamic and collaborative Automation team at Te Rapa, as we are acquiring new assets for supplying steam to the site.

Our Te Rapa plant processes up to 10 million litres of milk per day into powders, cream cheese, butter and AMF.


As a member of our high performing team of Automation Engineers, you will sit within an ever-changing industry where we need to ensure our systems are effectively maintained and running smoothly.

This role will give you lots of variety, where you will work across BAU maintenance as well as projects and strategic technology initiatives.

Day to day, you will be based at our renowned Te Rapa site, supporting improvement and their execution to ensure high availability and reliability.

You will be involved in PLC and HMI coding and programming, as well as fault finding and attending breakdowns.

About you

You will be a natural relationship builder and be able to work with the wider business to understand needs and pain points while effectively putting in place initiatives to ensure our control systems are running to optimal capacity.

You will be a strong automation engineer with high proficiency in process automation and machine coding, with familiarity in manufacturing execution systems (MES).

Your strong problem-solving skills will enable you to troubleshoot quickly and work with our partners to get remediation initiatives underway promptly.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Tertiary or Trade Qualifications in automation engineering, electrical or similar technical discipline
  • Proven handson experience working in PLC control systems and programming
  • Tech savvy and excellent communication skills
  • An ability to work under pressure and in a fastpaced environment while staying calm and maintaining high attention to detail
  • Previous experience with Rockwell systems for PLCs would be beneficial, but not required.
