Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
  • Based at Kaahui Whetuu in South Auckland
  • $90, ,019 per annum, dependent on experience
  • Supporting team with delivering positive outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi

We have an exciting opportunity for a professional with clinical skills and proven experience in developing plans and coordinating casework as part of a multi-disciplinary team to join our Care Services team at Kaahui Whetuu.

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children has a commitment to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of what we do. We work to ensure that New Zealand is the best place in the world to be a child. We are also committed to ensuring Oranga Tamariki partners with hapū, iwi and Māori organisations to find appropriate solutions for tamariki in need.

Mō te tūnga| About therole

Kaahui Whetuu provides residential care to tamariki and rangatahi in community settings. We work to keep our young people connected to the positive influences in their lives - whānau, mentors, school, and community-based programmes. We support tamariki by upholding their mana, honouring their sense of self and their important connections and relationships; and upholding and supporting their right to heal, recover, and reach their potential.

We have an assessment Hub located in Wiri for up to five tamariki, and two community homes based in the Manukau City region who can support up to four tamariki in each home. Support is provided through therapeutic interventions, healing impacts of trauma, meeting their health and specialist needs, re-engaging into education, and ensuring a strong focus on cultural identity and relationships.

As a Case Leader, you will report to the Team Leader Clinical Programmes and be accountable for the leadership and development of all aspects of a young person's care plan. This includes the interventions, programmes and steps needed to effectively address health needs, presenting behaviours, trauma impacts, and the therapeutic services each young person requires to support their healing and restoration to whānau or an alternative longer-term home. Alongside this, you will support the team after hours on the senior duty roster with active risk management and engagement with plans.

Your practice framework will require an understanding of child development, behavioural theories, trauma-informed care, attachment theory and child focused creative behavioural interventions.

Key requirements of the role include:

  • A qualification in psychology, occupational therapy, education, social work, health, or another related field is a prerequisite and registration with a professional body is essential.
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
  • Strong communication skills for supporting kaimahi after hours on the senior duty roster.

Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you

Oranga Tamariki offer an impartial remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $90,429 and $100,019 dependant on experience.
