Job Description:

As the Operations Director at NZICPA, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and operational efficiency of our organization.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for overseeing various key result areas including leadership, strategic direction, innovation, cost management, financial planning, student accommodation and property management, project management, compliance, and audit functions.

Your leadership will drive the organisation towards achieving its goals while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership: Be an integral member of the NZICPA Senior Leadership Team, embodying the company culture and values, especially around safety.

Generate innovative ideas for organizational improvement and serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO.
Manage day-to-day business functions and provide inspiring leadership to the entire organisation.
Ensure effective management of legal, HR, and office functions.

Strategic Direction:
Contribute to defining short- and long-term strategic goals and objectives.
Develop plans to close gaps and adjust priorities as needed to execute strategic priorities.
Assist in developing business cases for key strategic projects and initiatives.

Innovation:
Implement process innovations to enhance business efficiency while prioritizing safety.
Drive continuous improvements in business operations and resource utilisation.

Cost Management:
Deliver business plan objectives within annual budgets.
Develop commercial rigor and identify efficiency gains and productivity improvements.
Lead efforts to find new funding and revenue-saving opportunities without compromising safety.

Financial Planning, Budgeting, and Audit:
Produce accurate annual and multi-year budgets aligned with strategic objectives.
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the CEO and maintain compliance with audit requirements.

Student Accommodation and Property Management:
Manage student pastoral care and building assets to ensure safety and comfort.
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address building issues promptly and efficiently.

Project Management:
Scope and manage special projects ensuring proper resource allocation and timely delivery.

Compliance and Audit:
Manage compliance and audit functions and processes, ensuring timely completion and accuracy of compliance documents.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
MBA preferred.
Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within the education or aviation industry.
Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, financial planning, and audit processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, innovate, and drive operational excellence.

Ensure that strategic priorities are carried out.

Help develop the business case for key strategic priorities / projects.
Strategic goals are clearly defined, and well understood and supported by everyone.
Clear plans and performance management processes are in place and working well.

Innovation Seek out and implement process innovations with the aim of improving the business efficiency of the organisation, while always adhering to the highest standards of safe operation.

Evidence of continuous incremental improvements in business operation.
New resources added to NZICPA have measurable and enhanced outcomes.
Cost management Deliver agreed business plan and strategic objectives within annual plan.
Develop commercial rigour and accountability across the firm.
Lead a drive to find and implement sensible, integrated efficiency gains and productivity improvements.
Identify, evaluate and support the implementation of new funding and revenue savings opportunities.
Budgets are achieved."Cost to service" is reduced.
Resource utilisation is increased.
Operational efficiencies targets are incorporated into the budgets and then delivered.
Safety is never compromised.
Financial planning, budgeting and audit Produce detailed annual budget.
Produce less detailed multi-year budget/forecast.
Budgets are accurate and aligned with strategic objectives.
Budget revisions are not frequent.
CEO receives pertinent information needed to monitor the company.
NZICPA maintains or improves its audit ratings with the various regulators.

Student accommodation and other property management Manage student (pastoral) care through a close liaison with the NZICPA pastoral care officer.

Manage other building assets (e.g.

hangar, accommodation)Work with Airport to ensure we have what we need to function effectively (taxiways, runways, fuelling, room for future expansion)Student facilities are comfortable, safe and fit for purpose.

High occupancy rate of student accommodation.
Building issues / defects are fixed quickly and efficiently.
Project management Scope out and manage special projects.
Projects are clearly scoped and properly resourced.
Projects are delivered timeously and within budget constraints.
Compliance and Audit Manage compliance and audit functions and processes.
Plan, execute and coordinate routine compliance and audit outcomes.
Develop, maintain and manage the compliance and audit plan.
Ensure the audit process is managed.
Audits are completed efficiently and effectively.
Compliance documents are filed accurately and ahead of prescribed deadlines.
