About the role

At New Zealand Police, we want to ensure that our service to the New Zealand public is all it can and should be.

Police's adaptability, agility, and ability to manage constant change through innovation are keys to its success.

The value of the Scrum Master to support this is the ability to support and help in the development of high performing teams.

We are looking for a Scrum Master to facilitate the activities of an Agile team within the NZ Police Transformation and Change group.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of delivering key strategic initiatives designed to deliver improved service to the community.

You will be part of a team of project professionals across the Transformation and Change business unit.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Facilitate the delivery team to establish Agile practices and ceremonies
  • Helping the development team to remove any impediments, and to prioritise the right things
  • Take a "make it happen" approach and enable the team to move to selfmanaging, selforganising delivery
  • Engage and influence within a complex, matrix organisation and adapt to challenges and obstacles
  • Continually be on the lookout for improvement opportunities
Your development is highly valued at NZ Police.

Our permanent team members enjoy significant investment in their development not only at an individual level, but also at the team and community of practice level, bringing together like-minded project professionals that you can learn from and lean on when you need advice or assistance.

We work hard to match you with work that will both play to your strengths and challenge you in new ways.

The work you'll be engaged in is real, tangible work that directly benefits our frontline and communities.

Taken all together, this means we can offer you career path opportunities to progress in your chosen profession and become a more well-rounded, experienced project professional, with opportunities across the range of work we support.

What you'll bring

Being part of the Police whānau is about being our best to ensure our communities are safe and feel safe.

Our Core Competencies provide a shared understanding of the behaviours, leadership and technical competence required for success at each level of Police.

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.

To be successful you will be able to:

  • Influence and engage teams, partners and community.
  • Agree a Social Contract, Definition of Ready, and Definition of Done for new Scrum Teams
  • Support the Product Owner by ensuring the goals, scope and product vision are understood by everyone in the Scrum Team.
  • Coach the Scrum Team on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to meet customer needs, and enhance productivity
  • Encourage and protect selforganisation
  • Organise and facilitate (at least initially) all Scrum events and ceremonies
  • Help build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on problem solving
  • Facilitate discussions, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Have the experience to coach people and teams.
