Oncology Registrar Relievers

Our Organisation

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua |MidCentral (MidCentral) is part of Te Whatu Ora|Health New Zealand and provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatū, Horowhenua and Tararua regions.

With a large hospital campus in Palmerston North, it also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.

The Opportunity
Are you a PGY3 or above, who is interested in learning more about Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology and Radiation Oncology in a well-supported junior registrar position?

At MidCentral we have two positions for Registrar Relievers working across all three services and gaining experience in each of the three specialities while providing cover for planned leave.

The Regional Cancer Treatment Service at MidCentral provides tertiary oncology and haematology services for the Manawatu, Whanganui, Wairarapa, Taranaki and Hawke's Bay regions.

Systemic treatments are delivered on the inpatient oncology ward at Palmerston North Hospital or in the outpatient day units in Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Hastings and Masterton and will soon be available in Whanganui.

The radiation oncology department has four Varian TrueBeam linacs and has an active stereotactic programme.

While there will be a requirement to do some inpatient work, the registrars will also be rostered to outpatient clinics and gain experience in oncology, haematology and radiation therapy.

Each reliever will be able to nominate a 'home' service in line with their interests. When not covering leave they will be based in the 'home' service.

For Registrars who are basic trainees for RACP or intending to become basic trainees these positions will count towards training and will not be deemed to be relief.

Appointments are for 6 or 12 months depending on your preference. Ongoing there will be positions both training and non-training available in each of the services and in internal medicine.

The positions area available from 29 January 2024, however we will consider applicants who are available to start at any time in 2024.
