Ara Poutama Aotearoa Health Services lead the delivery of patient-focused primary health care services to tangata within corrections facilities across Aotearoa.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our new hauora hinengaro (mental health) team based in Wiri, Auckland.

You'll be working as part of our Intervention & Support Practice Team, dedicated to providing high quality mental health support and treatment to the most vulnerable people in our care.

Your role as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team, is to provide quality assessment and deliver safe and clinically effective interventions to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of people in our care that are aligned to best practice mental health service provision.

This new position will suit an Occupational Therapist who demonstrates a strong commitment to culturally safe practice and partnership.

Our teams are committed to modelling expert clinical practice and ensure a strong focus on Humanising and Healing - respecting the human dignity and inherent mana of all people in our care, and their whānau.

You'll be motivated to promote the delivery of holistic and recovery-oriented health services across the prison environment, including kaupapa Māori practices that align to Hokāi Rangi.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with current annual practising certificate
  • Member of Occupational Therapy New Zealand
  • Professional Association (desirable)
  • Strong practice in mental health such as community, acute, forensic care, or recovery and rehabilitation
  • Knowledge about mental health models for example the recovery model, risk assessment and management
  • Can operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and has an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and how it relates to health and wellbeing
  • Able to provide mental health assessment, case formulation and treatment based upon evidence of what constitutes best practice in a Correctional setting
  • Strong, people engagement, relationshipbuilding and collaborations skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt behaviour to reflect diverse situations and people, and deal positively with difficult situations and people
The salary range for this role starts from $60,606 to $80,716 based on demonstrable skills and experience
