This role sits within the Policy & Advocacy (P&A) team, which develops medical and health policies.

The Senior P&A Officer will support the College's Policy & Advocacy work in the development, dissemination, implementation of health policies, positions, strategies, initiatives etc that reflect the priorities of the College and our membership.

You will work with Fellows and trainees to harness their expertise and experience to develop compelling, relevant and timely health policies to improve the health and well-being of the community.

This role also supports Fellows and trainees to contribute to and be a key part of the College's advocacy work, harnessing their expertise, experience and profile within the policy and advocacy portfolio.


  • This is a parttime role offering 30 hours per week across 4 days._

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop policy, advocacy and communications strategies to support College policy priorities
  • Develop submissions, briefs, letters, advocacy materials, policies and position statements on matters as required, based on input and advice from College Fellow and Trainees.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage the College membership with the policy & advocacy work of the College
  • Identify opportunities for innovative and engaging advocacy initiatives, to include appropriate reporting measures on effectiveness
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders; across the College and with external organisations
  • Create and facilitate appropriate engagement with relevant stakeholders and initiatives
  • Development of persuasive written materials to effectively communicate the College's views and to advocate the College's positions

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications eg. Public policy, health or related discipline
  • Experience in the development of health policies, position statements and briefing papers
  • Highly developed analytical skills, political judgement and strategic thinking
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Ability to work within a context of complexity
  • Demonstrated skills in:
  • Developing and executing persuasive strategies for policy change
  • Stakeholder engagement including identifying partners and building networks
  • Influencing decisionmakers
  • Proven track record in developing effective advocacy strategies and materials
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in background research, critical analysis and evaluation.
