We are on the lookout for an ambitious and skilled Senior Residential Life Manager | Pou Taurima Matua (SRLM) to join our UniLodge team in the Canterbury portfolio, Christchurch on a full-time basis.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a unique leadership opportunity to bring your passion for strategic planning, student wellbeing and engagement to a role in which you will oversee the quality assurance, development of and improvement of our residential experience at our University of Canterbury portfolio. This role will focus on the following key areas:
  • Residential Life programme delivery
  • Resident wellbeing, equity, and academic support
  • Student communications & student voice
  • Conduct, emergency response and incident management
  • Student staff recruitment, training, and development
  • Coaching of residential life staff alongside their line managers
In this role you will be part of the Canterbury leadership group and report to and work closely with the General Manager Portfolio/Senior Leader, Residential Life NZ. This role is crucial in our innovation and delivery in all things residential experience for our 2300 students living with UniLodge at UC. You will have the opportunity to ensure UniLodge is at the forefront of good practice. You will be part of the driving force for a safe, inclusive environment that focuses on student development and success. Teamwork is essential in this role. You will work alongside Kaitātai | Property Managers Operations and the Pou Tiaki Matua | Evening Duty Manager Team Leader who are dedicated to delivering a great program and experience for our residents.

This role will have work hours from Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 6:30pm, with the successful candidate needing flexibility to work after hours and weekends due to the nature of our resident needs and lifecycle. Possibility of role being live onsite

ABOUT YOU

You will be enthusiastic and intentional in creating a holistic environment for student growth. You will oversee the end-to-end residential experience for the growing portfolio. It is essential that you demonstrate the ability to understand the complexities of university life, and operational aspects of residential living. Living in an unfamiliar environment can be a daunting and challenging experience for anyone. You will be someone who can respond to a range of critical incidents and mental health challenges and lead a UniLodge response to these. Ideally you will have experience in a similar role, with a focus on planning, engagement, and mental health/wellbeing.

Our mandatory requirements include:
  • Unrestricted work rights in New Zealand
  • Previous leadership experience
  • High level of writing and research (highly regarded)
  • Experience in a University environment (highly regarded)
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to problem solve & manage conflict
  • Strong cultural competency skills and a deep appreciation for Te Ao Māori
  • A focus on service and quality with the passion to deliver outstanding experiences
  • NZ Police Vetting (required)
