Regional Health Managers oversee the management of the Defence Health Centres in their region. We have two Regional Health Manager positions available.

The Regional Health Manager Central manages the Defence Health Centres in Waiouru Military Camp, RNZAF Base Ohakea and Linton Military Camp.

The Regional Health Manager Southern manages the Defence Health Centres in Wellington, Trentham Military Camp, RNZAF Base Woodbourne and Burnham Military Camp.

You will lead and manage the Defence Health Centres within the region, ensuring there is an effective and efficient health service for all military personnel which is patient-centric and focuses on a holistic, integrated and multidisciplinary approach.

As a member of the Force Health Organisation (Force Health) Management Team and in close collaboration with clinical staff, you will lead the regional team through, continued implementation of both the Defence Health and Force Health Strategies.

Working location is flexible as you can work from any of the Defence Health Centres in your region. Flexible working options including working from home options are available.

You will have sound knowledge and experience of clinical practice management processes and systems, NZ health legislation and compliance issues relating to the provision of medical services.

As an experienced and respected people leader, you will be skilled in building team commitment and will model a leadership style of open communication and consultation, encouraging shared decision making and sharing of ideas across the team.

Your skills in the remote management of staff and resources across multiple locations, as well as mentoring and coaching, will be crucial to your success in this role.

Along with your health sector experience and a relevant tertiary qualification, you will also be:

  • A change catalyst and will champion required change;
  • Strategically orientated with a focus on innovative thinking; and
  • Skilled in relationship building and management.


As the Regional Health Manager, you will need to be available to travel on an as needed basis within NZ to other NZDF locations and this may include overnight stays.

Travel will primarily be within your region to engage with staff at the Defence Health Centres. A Class 1 Full Driver's License is required.

Force Health delivers health services to NZDF military personnel in New Zealand to maintain, improve and restore health in order to enhance Force effectiveness.

The core health provision is primary health care with some additional focus on care specific to the military such as rehabilitation.

- most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
