We are in the process of adjusting to a suite of reforms, coupled with a review of the future of local government.

These changes signal a reset towards a pivotal role in enabling well-being in partnership with our communities. This is an exciting time to be in our sector.


With this in mind, the Waimakariri District Council has recently formed a new Strategy and Business Unit, which will lead the development, monitoring and maintenance of a framework for strategy and policy to guide the Council's contribution to social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing.

Key strategy, policy and bylaw development and maintenance accountabilities go with this mandate.

As does the responsibility of providing expert policy advice to Council management and elected officials and responding to legislative consultations, particularly from the Central Government when required.


We are seeking a Senior Policy Analyst to work alongside a team of highly motivated professionals who strive to deliver innovative thinking in everything they do.


To succeed in this role, you will have strong analytic and critical thinking skills that will allow you to interpret and provide advice on emerging global, national, regional, and district trends and issues.

You will have a demonstrated ability to develop high-quality policy responses to national policy statements, national environmental standards, and other legislative processes.

You will be able to write high-quality submissions in response to legislative consultation opportunities.

Strong communication skills will enable you to contribute to cross-Council working groups to develop and review strategies, plans, and bylaws that exemplify best practices and consider community and stakeholder views.


From time to time, you will support a range of other projects undertaken by the wider team, including our Annual and Long Term Planning processes.
