About The Role This role is be based in Auckland within the 'Commerce' division of VML that's headed-up in Sydney, but you'll also be part of the broader VML Strategy team.

As a senior Strategist, you will be comfortable devising data-based strategic insights and direction to apply to create briefs and support development of communications initiatives for a breadth of clients including category leaders in FMCG, Liquor, QSR and Automotive / Marine.

Working closely with the NZ and AU Strategy, Account Service and Creative teams, this position provides both internal and client facing strategic direction of big ideas to activate in commerce.

The ideal person will have deep understanding of shopper behaviour in the increasingly digital world (including social commerce) and be able to apply understanding to the planning process across everything from creative brief writing, to customer journey mapping and comms planning, through to research and presenting findings and recommendations internally and to clients.

Key Responsibilities Commission and understand qual and quant research, synthesise for insight, present and translate to the team for best effect.

Conduct some qual and quant research or analysis.
Develop and help sell in comms strategies for traditional shopper marketing, e Commerce and brand experiences Attend creative reviews and be able to review and challenge work to ensure it meets the brief Shopper journey mapping and comms planning to inform copywriting and creative development Develop and write presentations and be involved in presentation teams Co-lead and play key role in new business growth and pitches Owning commerce excellence using our priority retail planning & insight platforms, forming an in depth understanding of key retailers, ecosystems, their shoppers and business priorities Help to keep the whole team up to date on trends and points of view Responsible for the strategic direction of execution during creative development both for content of message and communication channel Champion and co-lead our Creative Commerce proposition Required Experience/Skills/Capabilities5+ years of relevant experience in comms strategy development, research and planning, with FMCG / Liquor and broader category retail/shopper experience and knowledge – agency or client-side experience Deep understanding of the New Zealand Grocery and Liquor retail channels Working knowledge of relevant consumer goods categories that have different purchase cycles, and touch points including traditional and digital (incl.
social commerce and e Commerce)Proactive in monitoring and interpreting key social and economic trends to develop interesting and provocative insights, write briefs and form strong creative relationships Confident to 'own' projects and creation of presentations with guidance and support from leaders and team Ability to effectively manage timelines and deliverables of multiple projects simultaneously Proven record of leading and converting new business opportunities Exceptional oral and written communications skills Great attitude and a team player.
