Salary: $89,22
  • Part of StraitNZ Group, Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferries carry passengers, cargo. and vehicles between Wellington and Picton up to four times daily. We have been crossing the Cook Strait since 2002 and continue to make a big mark in the transport and tourism industry.
  • We have several permanent opportunities for experienced Able Bodied Seafarers to join our crew onboard. These are live onboard rostered positions, consisting of two weeks on, two weeks off.
  • At Bluebridge we put the safety of our passengers and crew at the forefront of our operations, therefore, you will be contributing to our strong safety culture aboard our iconic ferries.
    What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with a positive outlook, strong work ethics and a great attitude.

  • You need to demonstrate good verbal communication skills and a commitment towards health and safety.
  • The following certificates are also required:
  • Valid STCW A-II/5 Able Seafarer deck certificate or an ILO AB Certificate with a Maritime NZ STCW95 endorsement
  • Valid STCW A-VI/11, Personal Survival Techniques, STCW A-VI/12 Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, STCW A-VI/13 Elementary First Aid, STCW 1VI/14 Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, STCW A-VI/21 Proficiency In Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Boats
  • Valid STCW Seafarers Medical Certificate

The following certificates may also be advantageous:

  • Valid STCW A-VI/2-2 Fast Rescue Boats, STCW VI/6-1 Security Awareness or STCW A-VI/6-2 Designated Security Duties, STCW A-V/2-1 Passenger Ship Crowd Management
  • Valid AU/NZ Safety at Heights Training Certificate, AU/NZ Enclosed Space Training Certificate AU/NZ Forklift Operator Certificate

What is the role?

  • You will join a supportive and dedicated deck crew, and contribute to the following duties:
  • Loading, stowing, discharging, and securing cargo
  • Take charge of survival craft or rescue boats
  • Ship maintenance and repair, including painting and cleaning
  • Mooring, bridge, and helmsman duties
  • Prevention of pollution to the marine environment
  • Contribute to berthing, anchoring duties
  • Contribute to emergency situations including fight and extinguish fires.
  • Safe operation of deck equipment and machinery
  • Contribute to on board crowd management
