The Opportunity


We are looking for motivated and dynamic nurses to join our STAR 4 ward team as Associate Charge Nurses (ACN).

These roles are rostered and rotating -and sharing across our team of ACNs Monday to Sunday.

Horowhenua Health Centre, based in Levin is 45 minutes away from Palmerston North Hospital. STAR 4 is a 20 bedded rehabilitation ward within the Centre.

This role will see you providing operational management and day-to-day clinical leadership within and on behalf of the STAR 4 ward, nine shifts a fortnight (0.9), working in conjunction with and providing essential support to the Charge Nurse and other members of the Star 4 MDT team.

Main duties of the job

  • Role model expert nursing clinical practice, guide and empower staff to deliver person and whānau centred, evidence based care.
  • Maintain a safe clinical and operational environment.
  • Coordinate resources to meet identified needs of patients and staff.
  • Referral triage and prioritisation.
  • Oversee and facilitate effective patient flow and bed management in liaison with other relevant departments and teams both within Star 4 and with other services.
  • Facilitate and lead a multidisciplinary approach to care.
  • Lead and coordinate the patient care team by providing supervision, clinical leadership to support to promote patient focused care within the allocated resources.
  • Promote and facilitate quality care and equity of outcomes.
  • Promote and facilitate risk minimisation activities.
  • Maintain clinical portfolios and other responsibilities as allocated by the Charge Nurse.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with no resrictions.
  • Current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate.
  • Experience as a shift leader within a ward setting, and recognised by colleagues as a high functioning leader.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of recent and relevant nursing experience.
  • Relevant academic qualifications and a commitment to post graduate level study.
  • PDRP, with ability to attain an Expert portfolio within one year of working in this role.
  • Proven ability in Trendcare/MIYA and WebPas use and to support staff with same.
  • Computer literacy at intermediate level.
