Hours:
Permanent, part-time (10 hours per week)

Job specific information:

This role offers you an exciting opportunity to become involved in our organisation making a difference in the community. The Education Support Worker is responsible for supporting a disabled child/children in their local early childhood centre setting. The role provides educational input which fosters the child's/children's development, learning and inclusion within the centre. The role will also support the transition to primary school.

About the role:

  • Provide support to a disabled child within an identified early childhood centre including, if required, personal cares.
  • Discuss current goals, progress and challenges with the Early Intervention Coordinator during visits to the centre and supervision sessions.
  • Participate in and contribute to Individual Planning meetings and the development of the child's Individual Plan (IP).
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Early Intervention Coordinator.

About you:

  • Experience in a service delivery organisation.
  • Understanding of the disability sector and ability to relate to disabled people in a positive affirming manner.
  • Understanding of the development of children and the way in which they relate to others.
  • The ability to work effectively with disabled children, their family/whānau.
  • Be flexible and adaptable.
  • Display relationship and personal skills with a range of people and age groups.
  • Clean driver's license or access to transport.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.
