The Role:


Within Mott MacDonald, our endeavours encompass an extensive array of services within the realms of hydropower and pumped storage sectors.

Presently, we are seeking a proficient Civil Engineer to partake in our team, dedicated to the development of Hydropower and Pumped Storage projects.

This role involves collaboration with our adept civil engineering team and falls under the purview of the Technical Director Hydropower.

Notably, our Technical Director Hydropower is a globally recognised expert within the Mott MacDonald group, contributing expertise to worldwide undertakings such as:

  • Lake Onslow option of the New Zealand Battery Project
  • Muswellbrook Pumped Storage, Australia
  • Suki Kinari Hydropower, Pakistan
  • White Pine Pumped Storage, USA
  • Kidston Pumped Storage, Australia
  • Central West Pumped Storage, Australia
  • Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower, Pakistan
You will have the opportunity to learn of one of Mott MacDonalds global experts and work alongside these experts on many of these global projects as well as the New Zealand Battery project

Role Responsibilities:


As a Civil Engineer in the energy sector, you would be deeply involved in the dynamic domain of pumped storage and hydropower projects.

Your responsibilities would encompass a wide spectrum of tasks, from conceptualisation to execution.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you would engage in the design, analysis, and planning stages of these projects, ensuring the integration of engineering principles and sustainable practices.


  • Your expertise would be pivotal in developing intricate hydraulic systems, optimising the layout and alignment of structures, and addressing geological considerations. Additionally, you would contribute to the environmental impact assessments, permitting procedures, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Your role would extend to assisting in project management, providing oversight construction activities, liaising with contractors, and monitoring progress.
