KiwiRail needs a Senior Resource Management Act Advisor. Working as part of our RMA team the focus of the role is to support Kiwirail's Capital Works Programs and ensuring that KiwiRail can maintain its operations across the country.

This is a busy position. Our team has responsibility for supporting all KiwiRail's major programmes of work. Our main objective is to provide Resource Management Act advice and support to KiwiRail, to achieve compliance and the proactive protection of KiwiRail's operations and developments. You will liaise with councils on strategy, plans and applications, and get involved in planning related policy and legislative changes that impact on our business. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on significant, iconic and well-funded programmes of work.

What you'll do

  • Protecting and supporting KiwiRail assets, operations and projects – Ensure operational railway land is designated for railway purposes and holds appropriate underlying zoning.
  • Integrated National, Regional and District Planning – Provide input into legislative changes at a national, regional and district level.
  • Policy and Process development – Assist in the development and maintenance of internal and external RMA related policy to support the greater team.
  • Liaison and Communication – Proactively develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Zero Harm - Compliance with all rail safety system standards, procedures and statutory requirements within your area of responsibility.

What you'll need

  • NZPI recognised planning qualification.
  • 6+ years New Zealand based planning experience within the RMA framework, preferably with a focus on capital works and infrastructure.
  • Strategic planning experience including policy work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and openly in a variety of settings and styles.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage (sometimes heavy) workloads and timelines, understands how to separate and combine tasks to manage workflow.
