The New Zealand Police Digital Forensics Unit is part of the High Tech Crime Group and play a crucial role in all digital aspects of an investigation.

You will receive training and gain valuable on the job experience as you become an expert in digital forensics.


The New Zealand Police Central Digital Forensic Unit have multiple positions available, at Technician and Analyst levels available in the Wellington lab.

Digital Forensic Technician


This role is for a graduate with a degree in IT/Computer Science, or equivalent work experience (3 years minimum) in ICT, computer forensics, electronics, and/or incident response.


Within this role you will be expected to complete internationally recognised training (CFCE - see special requirements) and learn practical, real world forensic investigative experience.

Digital Forensic Analyst


You will already have practical, real world digital forensic experience, and have a certification as IACIS's CFCE, SANS GCFE, or similar.

  • Be capable of making sound decisions under pressure

  • Clean and current (full) Driver's license
  • IT degree or work experience within an IT related field
  • The ability to complete Certified Forensic Computer Examiner certification as part of the career structure
