About the Opportunity
Join us as a People & Capability Manager, where you will lead the HR function to drive the successful operation of our Corrections Facility contract. You'll implement HR priorities and policies, focusing on enhancing manager's and supervisor's skills in people management. Your role is crucial in delivering on ASPAC and National P&C objectives, and ensuring all HR activities comply with NZ legislative requirements.
This role will be based on-site 5 days per week.
What You'll Be Doing
- HR Leadership and Management: Lead the day-to-day management of the facility HR requirements, providing leadership, coaching and direction to all people leaders including disciplinary matters, terminations, and investigations
- Policy Implementation and Complance: Support the implementation of HR priorities and policies that align with Serco's global standards and local requirements ensuring all investigations comply with Serco policies and NZ laws
- Recruitment and Induction: Oversee recruitment processes consistent with agreed staffing levels and conduct on-site inductions for new non-custodial employees
- Performance and Development: Manage the annual performance review process and coordinate development plans, supporting managements and employees in effective implementation
- Industrial and Employment Relations: Serve as the site's primary contact for interpreting the Collecting Employment Agreement and NZ employment legislation, supporting the negotiation and deployment of the agreement
About You
You are a seasoned HR professional with a robust background in managing a multi-disciplinary team within a unionised environment. Your experience includes hands-on leadership in HR functions with a strong understanding of industrial relations and employment law, ideally within corrections or similar sectors. You are skilled in fostering a professional and culturally sensitive environment, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and Serco's values.
Your Ideal Skills & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Commerce, or Psychology
- Proven experience in a hands-on HR Manager role, with practical experience in core HR functions and industrial relations within a unionised setting
- Sound understanding of New Zealand employment law and processes, with operational experience in a corrections environment considered a plus
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain necessary security clearances including NZ Ministry of Justice Check and NZ Police Vetting - Must hold a valid NZ driver's license and a valid passport
