Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity


We are seeking Maternity Care Assistants who are enrolled in and in their 2nd,3rd of 4th year in the Bachelor of Midwifery, with a great work ethic, communication and interpersonal skills to join our team at Waikato on a casual basis.


  • Duties will be under the direction supervision of the midwifery team, assisting with;
  • Supporting our Midwives assisting with patient care under supervision
  • Basic baby care (bathing, changing nappies, and settling babies)
  • Collecting expressing equipment or breastmilk for women
  • Cleaning and sterilising expressing equipment post collection
  • Assist woman to bathroom/shower
  • Bed making
  • Positioning/comfort cares
  • Bed bath
  • Empty indwelling catheter bag or measure trial of voids
  • Assisting women with showering and at meal times
  • Clerical duties and other general duties as required to assist with the smooth running of the department

  • Receive on the job support from those who have been in your shoesThis role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired DHBs / MERAS Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the Midwifery Pay Equity Settlement Agreement, Maternity Care Assistants Salary Scale, between Step 1 and Step 5, $54,100 to $64,309 per annum, pro rata (plus KiwiSaver).

Mōu | About you- You will be committed to high standards of practice, be well organised and have excellent communication skills. It is important that you are motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic. Experience working with people in a caring capacity is advantageous, however we are excited to support your entry into the profession.

As a casual employee, you may be asked to complete morning, afternoon or night shifts, but we will work together to create a great balance for your schedule.
