As one of the largest tertiary teaching hospitals in New Zealand, work as a pharmacy technician in our IPD team offers a variety of tasks and responsibilities.

In our busy department, every day is different. Pharmacists and technicians work together to respond to the work on hand in the main dispensary.

On the wards, technicians work alongside ward staff to maintain their own areas and keep up with medication supply demands.

For this, confidence in your own ability and the ability to work independently are essential.

Daily duties include dispensing medicines to named patients and replenishing ward stock through automated Medstations (Pyxis) or Imprest.

Working with advanced technology that offers a new and systematic way of supply resulting in improved patient safety and efficient dispensary service.

Once trained and appropriately experienced, technicians can work in areas associated with a high level of responsibility such as pharmaceutical compounding, cytotoxic training, Home IVs, procurement and other specialist roles within medicines supply.

The role will be well supported by the dispensary team. You will also work closely with clinical pharmacists and ward staff. Previous hospital experience is not necessary but preferred. We provide an environment where innovative new ideas and methods of working are encouraged.

Essential for this position:
Eligible to work as a pharmacy technician.
You must hold National Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician) level 5 issued by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority
Attention to detail as accuracy is critical
Good computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Motivated worker and self-directed learner
Team player
Available to work flexible hours including rostered weekends
