He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role


This is a fantastic opportunity to have a direct impact on the lives of people in the community to help them to reconnect, learn, grow, and live as independently as possible.

You will be engaged in our community residential service supporting clients who require intensive, high needs support. We welcome applicants who have a passion to see others succeed while you also work on your own development.


You'll be working as a key team member alongside Clinical, Residential, Educational and Administrative partners who are all committed and working hard for our people.

You will also receive regular supervision and debriefing with your service manager, in groups and as an individual.

You will be trained by us in several key skills, including MAPA [Management of Aggression and Potential Aggression], De-Escalation, Sensory Modulation, First Aide, and Fire Safety.

This is a casual position, based in Palmerston North.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Establish a rapport with tangata whaiora and their whanau.
  • Provide day to day support in alignment with client/ tangata whaiora goals and support plans including risk management plans and Safety Plans.
  • Work with tangata whaiora to identify significant goals. Provide encouragement and support clients to achieve their goals.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on their activities.
  • Ensure all incidents are documented appropriately.

We are looking for someone who is positive, flexible, vibrant, confident, and compassionate to work in our service. You'll use your non-judgemental attitude and belief to motivate and encourage whānau realise their potential. You'll have the ability to easily build professional relationships, while maintaining strong professional boundaries.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, Level 4 or be able to demonstrate your current plans to achieve this mandatory requirement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with mental health professionals and within our team.
  • Experience working in a similar role.
  • Must be flexible to work around rostered shifts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to recovery values
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • Should be eligible to work in New Zealand.
  • A current full driver's licence.
