Summerfruit New Zealand is the mission driven industry body which represents the interests of over 240 apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach, and plum growers in New Zealand. Its mission is to fuel the growth of the summerfruit sector while supporting dedicated growers. As a key player in New Zealand's growing horticulture sector, Summerfruit NZ is all about research and development, market access and protecting against biosecurity issues to ensure that New Zealand summerfruit gets the spotlight it deserves. Summerfruit NZ's investment in R&D keeps the sector ahead of the curve. The organisation's influence stretches far and wide and effective partnerships and collaborations across the horticulture sector and beyond are vital to meet the needs of growers and provide support with key challenging issues amidst changing industry dynamics.

The Role:

Based in Wellington, and reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for a small team and will provide leadership, management and vision to ensure Summerfruit NZ remains profitable and continues to deliver services, information and advocacy to ensure a thriving and growing Summerfruit industry. In conjunction with the Board you will develop and operationalise the strategy and provide excellent stakeholder management and effective communications with the members to take the sector to the next phase of growth and success.

The CEO role is a hands on leadership role which offers challenge and complexity in an increasingly sophisticated environment and a diverse range of stakeholders. From navigating market dynamics to fostering stakeholder relationships, every day brings a fresh puzzle to solve. Summerfruit NZ's impact extends beyond fruit. It's about economic prosperity and community well-being. This is an opportunity to work with the Board to evolve our vision, drive innovation, and set the course for future success.

The ideal candidate for the CEO role at Summerfruit NZ should possess a combination of leadership and influencing skills, along with well-developed strategic acumen and project management capabilities. Ideally, you will have demonstrated senior-level experience, including interactions with the Board. Strong relationship management and excellent communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of achieving outcomes by influencing a diverse range of stakeholder organisations. You will demonstrate strong financial management skills and acumen including contract management experience. Previous experience leading initiatives that require engagement across the entire sector is highly advantageous. Moreover, the ideal CEO will be forward-thinking, capable of charting pathways to achieve strategic goals.

Beyond qualifications, 'fit' will play a crucial role in this appointment. You will exhibit excellent communication and active listening skills, coupled with genuine curiosity, intellectual acuity, and a strong ability to learn. You will demonstrate the attributes, skills and knowledge to establish credibility and rapport with Summerfruit NZ's diverse stakeholders, ranging from small family businesses to large corporates. Additionally, alignment with collaborative work in a small team environment is essential. Above all, you will share a sincere passion for making a positive impact on New Zealand's summerfruit industry, growers, and exporters.
