Mō te tūnga | About the role

Within our Service Portfolios directorate, you will work closely with Domain Architects, Product teams and members of the wider Defence Digital teams to deliver solutions that are compliant with the organisations standards, policy and security obligations.

As a Solution Designer, you will be responsible for the technical design of the various features and services within our Product teams to deliver sustainable, secure and fit for purpose digital products to the wider NZDF.

You will develop designs that incorporate both technical and non-technical aspects, and provide support and oversight of the delivery of them by the other members of your product team.

A key part of the role involves engaging and collaborating with teams that manage infrastructure, platforms and Desktop services to ensure holistic designs that are optimised for current and future organisational need.

Ideally you'll have knowledge of or exposure to a combination of the following:

  • Demonstrable ability to design efficient, customer focused solutions in a complex business and ICT environment, including the ability to clearly link business value to proposed design elements, that will be delivered incrementally in an Agile environment;
  • Understanding of how technology and the end to end design process supports the delivery of agreed business objectives and outcomes;
  • Developing designs for current business and ICT problems with a view to the future agreed architectural roadmaps to minimise technical debt and maximise outcomes of work;
  • Detailed understanding of how to integrate new functionality into existing complex environments and landscapes;
  • Broad based cloud and on premise software environment experience, including experience with migrating products to a cloud environment;
  • Collaborative interpersonal style, including experience in managing customer expectations; and the ability to work within a matrix team model and flow to work through expanding and reducing team numbers dependent of prioritised workloads;
  • Knowledge of corporate systems and processes, especially in the logistics, training, HR & Payroll, Finance and operational support functions; and
  • Experience with SAP modules relevant to logistics, Finance and HR systems, would be a distinct advantage, however willingness to learn and grow in that area is required.

- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
