About the role:

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity:

The University of Waikato College - Te Kura Huanui is currently looking to appoint a Senior Teacher of English Language.

This role will support the Manager of our English Language Programmes and will take on a portfolio of responsibilities within the English Language team.


Ngā Tūranga Matua | Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality teaching and act as a model of pedagogical practice for teaching staff within the College.
  • Take a leadership role in the development, provision, and review of highquality curriculum, learning and teaching in English Language papers.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of curriculum design, current pedagogy, elearning, and quality assurance.

Selection Criteria and Qualifications:

Essential:

Educational qualifications:

  • General education to first degree or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field e.g. DELTA or Masters in TESOL/Applied Linguistics/Education
  • At least 5 years post qualification experience.

Experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Significant experience in a broad range of language teaching contexts.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of EAL teaching principles and practices.
  • Proven EAL teaching and assessment skills within tertiary contexts.
  • Significant experience in curriculum, assessment, eLearning
  • Assessment and evaluation skills appropriate to tertiarylevel programmes and students.
  • Organisational and administrative ability.
  • Curriculum development experience in EAL contexts.
  • Experience in leading and contribution to curriculum projects and new initiatives.
  • Commitment to maintaining currency in relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of elearning / selfaccess instructional environments and their development suitable to EAL objectives.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and show high levels of initiative.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Specialist qualification in a relevant field

Experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Demonstrated skills in specialist teaching and curriculum areas relevant to the goals of University of Waikato College.
  • Staff supervision and/or team leadership experience.
  • Teacher training experience.
  • Language teaching and learning experience in other countries and cultures.
  • Knowledge and awareness of New Zealand culture and social issues.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated excellence as an English Language teacher.

You will have the ability to lead and mentor your colleagues in curriculum and teaching initiatives, in goal areas identified by the English Language Programme Manager.

As a senior teacher you will be involved in peer mentoring and classroom observations and will maintain your expertise and skills through facilitation of, and participation in professional development.
