Te Papa stands proud as an iconic national building housing the treasures of the nation and is a vibrant destination for both national and international visitors.

A great opportunity is now available to join Te Papa in the role of Promotions Manager on a 6 months Fixed Term contract, where you will work to develop business opportunities through the creation, planning and delivery of strategic marketing and sales promotional campaigns on behalf of the Partnerships and Development and Museum and Commercial Services Directorates, and to ensure robust sales management systems and processes are in place across the business.

Business opportunities developed by the directorates include domestic and international touring exhibitions, Partnerships development, Te Papa Foundation/philanthropic giving, Te Papa events, front and back of house Te Papa tours, venues, and the Te Papa Store.


Key accountabilities of this role will include:

  • Develop, plan and deliver strategic marketing and sales promotional campaigns on behalf of Te Papa's commercial, events, partnerships and touring businesses
  • Support each business with the writing of proposals, presentations and the creation of promotional material
  • Maintain, train and develop the commercial client and promotional management system across the Directorate to ensure consistency, accuracy and intelligence that supports a high level of professionalism and relationship management
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to align promotional activity across the museum and to ensure effective use of the channels to market
  • Conduct sales research, initiate activity and undertake sales calls in support of the business unit managers
  • Represent commercial business units as directed to support the development of business and engagement with stakeholders

Ideally you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant discipline(s) and/or similar experience
  • 5+ years' experience in sales promotion, campaign management and marketing
  • Excellent presentation, communication and writing skills
  • Strategy development and planning skills
  • Inherent understanding of professional business conduct and relationship management
  • Understanding of sales management systems and processes, including CRMs (preferably Salesforce)
  • Experience of delivering within tight timelines
  • Budget and financial management


While this is primarily a Monday to Friday role, Te Papa operates 7 days a week therefore your flexibility to work as required due to event or campaign needs is essential.
