Job Description:

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

This role is responsible for:

  • Assisting in drafting research proposals through preparing bibliography lists or data visualisations
  • Conducting highlevel literature review on topics the lab is investigating
  • Running statistical analyses or create data visualisations for publications or presentations
  • Helping run activities and assets of the Language, Cognition, and Culture Lab
  • Administrative work and paperwork for lab members

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Honours, Masters or PhD in social sciences related to social, cognitive or evolutionary psychology
  • Experience in primary and secondary research, literature review, statistical analyses, and scientific publications
  • Expert use of statistical software such as R for data management and visualisation
  • Detailed knowledge of scientific research methods
  • Ability to collate bibliography of research relevant to the lab's projects

The Language, Culture and Cognition Lab, led by Professor Quentin Atkinson, is an energetic team of faculty, post docs and post grad students who study human language and culture.

We are interested in how language and culture vary around the globe, how they change through time, how language and culture shape our cognition and behaviour, and how our cognition and behaviour shape language and culture.

Our work combines methods and theory from psychology, evolutionary biology, linguistics, anthropology and behavioural economics to answer questions ranging from the origins of linguistic diversity, the function of religion, and the psychology of climate change, to how knowledge of evolved cognitive biases can inform public policy and why political systems vary the way they do around the globe.
