Our Correction Officers come from varied backgrounds and a diverse range of cultures. They bring a wide range of employment skills and life experiences with them.

At Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility you will join a dedicated and supportive team managing the well-being, health and safety of the women at our site.

Our facility caters for those on Remand and Sentenced, at all levels of security classification. We also house a purpose-built 'mothers with babies' unit on-site.

We recognise the women we manage have different needs to men and we have set an approach that will give our women the care, treatment, encouragement, counselling, skills and support required to shape better futures for themselves, their children and their families.

Utu ā-Tau | Salary and Benefits

  • Starting salary $67,519, increasing as you achieve national qualifications level 3 $72,197 and Level 4 $77,71

Mō te tūnga | About the role
We have new Correction Officer intakes on September 9th 2024 and October 7th 2024

As a Corrections Officer you will be working in a challenging environment where you will be supported by a team of experienced colleagues.

As part of your training you will learn how to keep yourself safe within a custodial environment.

You will engage with people in a positive way and will have the opportunity to influence change in the lives of whānau.

Using your highly effective communication and relationship building skills, you will assist and influence the women we manage, empowering them to make better choices, take the right actions at the right times and support their individual pathways towards living offence-free lives.


Corrections Officer, He Āpiha Whare Herehere will:

  • ĀRAHI
  • supervise daily routines
  • MANAAKI responding to questions and helping to resolve problems, help people engage in their rehabilitation programme and attend appointments or tangihanga.
  • WHAKAKIPAKIPA motivate and inspire people to make positive changes
  • HĀPAI monitor and manage health, safety and behaviours.
  • MAHITAHI work closely with whānau and other key stakeholders
  • MAHI be able to work rostered 8,10, or 12 hour rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidays

  • Able to work rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidays

  • Experience within a Kaupapa Māori environment (or the openess to learn) while not essential is desirable
Along with your unique skills and perspective we also need you to have the following:

  • Current and full New Zealand driver licence or Restricted Licence with the ability to sit your full licence within the next 3 months.
  • Legally able to work fulltime in New Zealand (work visa must have a remaining period of minimum 12 months)

Pre-employment checks are required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.

We provide fully paid training, you will commence training on our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway) which involves an initial weeks induction at ARWCF, then 5 weeks training at our National Training Centre in Wellington, then 4 weeks back at ARWCF, before graduating.
