The Opportunity

The Te Ahu a Turanga:

Manawatū Tararua Highway Alliance is a major undertaking in the Manawatū region, to replace the 2017 slip-damaged Manawatū Gorge road.

Once complete, the project will provide a much-needed link through the ranges, and will mean travelling through the area will be much safer.

Consisting of 11.5km of new 4-lane road, 6 million cubic metres of earthworks, and 6 bridges, the project will provide employment opportunities in the region over the life of the project through to 2025.

The Te Ahu a Turanga Alliance consists of Waka Kotahi - NZTA, Local Iwi, Fulton Hogan, HEB Construction, Aurecon, and WSP.

The day to day activity in this role will be working closely with construction in creating process control documentation, monitoring construction activities and then verifying achievement of quality requirements.

This will require leadership, excellent communication skills and a sharp attention to detail.

Achievement will ensure the Te Ahu a Turanga Project is delivered at the highest standard throughout the full project lifecycle.

What you'll bring to the table


You have strong project-based technical skills and knowledge in the quality management space and excellent interpersonal and communication capabilities, allowing you to promote a quality culture across the project.

Your ability to influence people and create a strong focus on quality will mean that work is completed to the right standard and quality the first time while ensuring that all business systems and processes are maintained.

This role will see you work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, influencing internal and subcontracted parties, with some interaction with the client.

The skills and experience required for this position are;

  • Tertiary qualification in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience within a largescale civil construction such as roading, rail and water on large infrastructure projects.
  • 2 years of experience as a Quality Engineer would be an advantage.
  • A broad knowledge of AS/NZS Standards and NZTA technical guidance along with project management system requirements.
  • Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of QA is desirable.
  • Familiarity with corrective action programs and outcomes.
  • Good understanding of systems structure and electronic document management


This is a position that will provide a fantastic opportunity for the right person to really make their mark on this project.

The career path leads to further quality management roles or onwards into civil or structural engineer roles where your quality experience will be of advantage.

This is a permanent, full time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
