Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Department of General Surgery at Christchurch Hospital provide a comprehensive range of tertiary level, acute and elective General Surgical services to the people of Canterbury and beyond

The Department currently comprises:

  • 27 General Surgeons
  • 4 Medical Officers
  • 22 Registrars
  • 12 House Officers

Covering the following sub-speciality areas:

  • Oncoplastic Breast and Endocrine
  • Upper GI
  • HPB
  • Lower GI
We are supported by three inpatient ward areas, specialist nursing staff, and a comprehensive range of Allied health services.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform surgical procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases, including lumpectomy, mastectomy, and breast reconstruction.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists, to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Educate patients about their diagnosis, treatment options, and postoperative care.

Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration with MCNZ and should have completed a minimum of two years post fellowship subspecialty breast training at the commencement of employment
