In this role you will provide legal and technical support to our clients and instructed counsel.

You will provide close, and immediate support and advice to the Manager Legal Services (Litigation) on all active proceedings (which are predominantly immigration but may also include a wide variety of cases), including participating in the decision making in respect of those proceedings.

You will be the primary interface between the litigation team, Crown Law Office, and external counsel as well as the various business units in Immigration New Zealand.

You will also provide support to proceedings involving other business units, and support the work of the wider litigation team, and branch.

Your workday will be varied but rewarding and will require a collaborative approach to work in partnership with the Litigation team which is responsible for the conduct and support of litigation across MBIE's regulatory functions and higher Courts proceedings and wider MBIE.

You will utilise your networking and relationship management skills to work with other business units across MBIE in the most effective and efficient way.

This is a fantastic role where you will be supported by experts and have real opportunity to build your knowledge in Immigration law and higher courts procedure.

You may have experience in a similar role, or have a passion for immigration law and / or appellate litigation.

You will not be required to appear as counsel in these proceedings, however we can offer other litigation experience if that aligns with the successful candidate's interests.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience: A quick learner with sound analytical skills Agile in your approach, being able to turn your mind to multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Forward thinking with an ability to anticipate issues and the needs of those you support Ability to build and maintain solid working relationships and leverage networks Must hold the legal right to live and work in Aotearoa NZ Must hold or have the ability to hold a Practising Certificate issued by the New Zealand Law Society A knowledge of Immigration law and / or higher courts procedure would be advantageous Previous engagement with INZ business leaders or similar work experience is desirable In addition to you will have an eye on the end game and be prepared to go the extra mile in to get the job done to a high standard.
