Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the role

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Director with a can-do attitude to lead Te Kāhui Takutai Moana - the marine and coastal area directorate within Te Arawhiti.

The Director, Takutai Moana (Marine and Coastal Area) is responsible for establishing and agreeing the strategy and approach for the Takutai Moana work programme.

This includes providing direction, strategy and oversight to the managers and their teams who are responsible for building relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi to understand their connections with the takutai moana, provides the Minister with advice on the recognition of customary rights, and leads the stewardship of the Takutai Moana (Marine and Coastal Area) Act 2011 and Ngā Rohe Moana o Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Porou Act 2019.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven successful experience working at and across senior executive levels of Government or equivalent experience in the private sector
  • Experience providing advice to senior executive levels of Government or equivalent experience in the private sector
  • Sound understanding of Tikanga Māori and experience with Crown-Māori perspectives and frameworks
  • Excellent relationship and engagement management skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Māori and across agencies to achieve results
  • Experience leading large teams including technical specialist teams where applicable
  • Operational management experience including financial management, planning, reporting and risk management
  • Experience managing complex work programmes and projects
  • Proven experience communicating with a wide range of audiences and influencing on complex issues
  • Knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi from an historical and contemporary context

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $175,308 and $244,038 based on skills and experience.
