About this role


Provide expert advice and guidance to effectively manage the Ministry's vehicle fleet essential to the delivery of the Ministry's services to learners; and continuously improve the vehicle fleet optimisation to meet government and business needs.

Contribute to the transition of the fleet through to 2025 to electric vehicles which is an essential compontent to the Ministry's sustainability journey

Lead at a national level the oversight of the services of the Ministry's appointed vehicle fleet management supplier to ensure the delivery of a safe, well maintained and efficient vehicle fleet As the Senior Advisor Vehicle Fleet, you will:

  • Work with the key customers in a collaborative way to meet the business's service delivery needs of the vehicle fleet
  • Provide effective vehicle fleet management develop and implement shortterm and long[1]term tactical plans and programmes to deliver a functioning, well maintained and safe vehicle fleet with a current register of active approved drivers of Ministry vehicles along with the delivery of all aspects of the Ministry's driver education programme
  • Oversee the vehicle fleet supplier and contract to deliver the safety, security, comfort and best longterm value for the Ministry and contribute to the management of the vehicle replacement programme with electric vehicles in line with Government's expectations to achieve a carbon neutral vehicle fleet by December 202
  • Review and report on monthly fleet performance, utilisation, costs, incidents, issues, driver education and recommend and implement improvements and opportunities for optimisation
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Ministry managers and business support staff at each office who manage the fleet locally and drivers across New Zealand as well as lead, facilitate and participate in meetings internally on vehicle fleet management issues and forums externally such as the AoG vehicle group, representing the Ministry's position

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following experience, capabilities and competencies:

  • Experience in a complex organisation and in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes along with a track record of leading, coaching and mentoring others to achieve outcomes
  • Current clean driver's licence along with in depth knowledge of the range of issues that the role needs to have operational oversight of, including assessment of incidents
  • Experience with the associated costing and financial approaches to managing a leased vehicle fleet and optimising value with the ability and desire to recognise and seize opportunities to improve on the organisation's performance along with experience successfully implement changes to business practices
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, attention to detail, good documentation skills together with the ability to utilise various Ministry technology and tools to analyse and communicate through data analysis risks and opportunities with vehicle users and stakeholders across the Ministry
