The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader/Foreperson to lead our drainage crew in Wellington.

As our Team Leader Drainage, you will use your deep operational knowledge to oversee the smooth operation of the drainage network, including several smaller three waters drainage projects.

You will manage the day-to-day operation of the network including resources, HSQE, budget, planned jobs, supervision of contractors and responsiveness to high priority jobs.

You will also lead a team of skilled individuals which will require you to successfully train, mentor and build confidence within the team, while holding overall responsibility for delegating and delivering quality work.

Your success will come from your ability to build a wide range of relationships, maintain a manageable workload for the team and foster a culture that puts doing the right thing at the forefront.

About you

To be successful in this role you will bring the following:

  • Experience in operations of drainage systems, coupled with the ability to work in a reactive environment
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills that leads to strengthened capability in both what staff do and how they do
  • A collaborative mindset you will understand what it takes to bring people together to achieve results
  • Knowledge of plant and equipment capabilities, with cost control experience
  • Minimum qualifications required New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Pipeline Construction and Maintenance) (Level 4) with strands in Drinking Water or Stormwater/Wastewater, together with a full NZ class 1 license
  • Holding an appropriate level 5 qualification or actively working towards one is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms as you will be engaging with a range of internal and external audiences
