The opportunity we have: *This will be a are permanent opportunity Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 4pm*_
Your Role:

Working as a Mechanical Engineer (Tradesperson), you will be kept busy in our depot with the inspection, servicing and maintenance of our rolling stock fleets, predominantly Wagons.

The primary focus of this role is to carry out the various maintenance checks and repairs as set out in the Maintenance Plan to the standards required in the Mechanical Codes and Instructions, ensuring the assets reliability and availability.

These are very hands-on roles, working as part of our diverse team of mechanical engineers at Palmerston North, with individuals experience in the rail industry ranging from 1 year to 40 years.

Our Palmerston North team forms part of our Rolling Stock Asset Services Group and the wider KiwiRail Whanau.

Your Skills:

• You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be highly enthusiastic and enjoy a role that includes following procedures, instructions and problem solving. We have a great team here you will be working as part of a supportive and inclusive team environment
• Hold a trade qualification as a Mechanical fitter, fitter/welder, heavy or light fabricator, boilermaker or similar
• Exposure to a manufacturing environment, heavy or automobile industry, machine upgrades is ideal
• Ability to evaluate and interpret engineering drawings and schematics and enjoy fault finding and process improvement
• Knowledge of relevant engineering practices
• Have a full, clean Class 1 NZ driver's licence. Forklift and F endorsement desirable
• High level of physical fitness, team spirit and be Health and safety focused
