Ideally based in Wellington or the surrounding area and reporting to the Sales Manager at our Auckland Head Office, we are seeking an experienced and professional Area Manager to support our continued growth into retailers across the Lower North Island and surrounding areas.

This is a busy role blending hands-on store-level account management, merchandising and product training into independent owner-operated businesses, alongside executing joint business plans that have been agreed at head office level with major corporate retail businesses through our Sales Manager.

Our ideal candidate is responsible for the customers based within the stipulated sales region, is sales experienced and highly relationship focused, seeking to add value at all levels for your customers.

You are happy to roll up your sleeves and work at the store level (merchandising, working with and training store staff), comfortable across multiple and varying product categories (we have over 2000 products), and providing precise and insightful feedback/reports to the Directors and Sales Manager on opportunities that support the development of your clients, and our overall sales plan/objective.

This role covers the Wellington (Travel and Gift Retailers and Pharmacy), Taranaki, Taupo, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu-Whanganui Regions.
Due to the vast area this role covers, we envisage this role being 3-4 days a week travelling outside of Wellington, including up to 9-12 nights per month away from home travelling across the territory

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYAccount Management:
Develop a constructive and trusting relationship between clients and company at store level.
Meet sales budgets set by management with due consideration to the trading environment. Co-ordinate new product presentations, promotions, training, eventing and other schedules/solutions, visual merchandising advice across internal and external stakeholders.
Respond to customer enquires/issues in a timely fashion and to any agreed timelines.
Oversee and manage orders, consignments, and/or attend sales calls as may be required and agreed with clients.

Territory Management and Business Development:
Design and maintain a disciplined call cycle to maximise the use of selling time and market penetration.
Investigate and develop new business partners / outlets for the Company's products. Identify, recommend and execute on opportunities and growth strategies with existing clients.

Administration and Team Development:

Complete any company and client required administrative/reporting tasks on sales calls, competitor activity, and the trading environment in a timely manner.

Contribute to the constructive and collaborative team culture within the department and across the business.

Our ideal candidate will also have the required competencies: At least 3 years' experience in an Area Sales Manager/Sales Representative role (or other relevant experience).

A genuine approach to communication with strong interpersonal skills.
Proven experience effectively managing a sales territory.
Excellent interpersonal relationship building/maintenance skills. Innovative approach to sell-through – maximising placement, ranging and promotional opportunities & creating promotional plans. Confident providing product training/demonstrations to both the public and retail staff within small, medium and large groups.

Competent in using Apple devices, basic Microsoft Office skills, and familiarity with using a CRM to manage your clients and territory.

Prior experience working in, or knowledge of, the travel retail, gift and/or pharmacy sector(s) is highly desirable.
A strong team player.

Most important will be your desire to truly understand your customers' business and how you can add value and contribute, as well as a genuine passion for New Zealand and New Zealand products.

All necessary tools of trade will be provided to the successful candidate, including phone, tablet, and company vehicle.
