The Opportunity | Te Kōwhiringa
As a Project Manager- Variations, you'll support the Construction Manager by leading the delivery of infrastructure projects across the Waikato region. You'll manage all aspects of project planning and execution — from tendering and procurement to delivery, reporting, and stakeholder engagement — ensuring every project meets client expectations and Downer's high standards.

You'll also play a key role in developing and mentoring your team, fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and excellence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading project delivery from planning to completion, ensuring works meet programme, budget, and quality targets
  • Managing subcontractor and supplier performance
  • Overseeing procurement, cost control, and claims/variations management
  • Building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture and ensuring all safety and environmental standards are met
  • Coaching and developing team members to build capability and performance

Important Skills | Nga Pūkenga Matua

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)

  • Proven project management experience in the construction or maintenance industry

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience

  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to manage budgets, claims, and variations

  • A commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
