We're a rapidly growing EdTech company committed to enabling every young person to be a confident and effective writer. Writer's Toolbox is a system of writing instruction that provides instant, actionable writing feedback to students and empowers teachers with a common language for writing instruction. This is a rare opportunity to apply your world-class expertise to a mission that changes lives.
In this role you'll be the guardian of content quality, voice, and instructional clarity across the entire organisation. If a word is published—whether in an academic paper, a user interface prompt, a marketing email, or a teacher training resource—it will ultimately have passed your desk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial Oversight: Define and enforce the highest editorial standards, house style, and pedagogical clarity across all our digital and print content for students, teachers, and partners.
- Content Creation & Refinement: Directly edit, rewrite, and structure educational, research, and technical material, ensuring it's accessible, engaging, and flawless.
- Brand Voice: Champion and maintain a clear, authoritative, and encouraging voice for the Writer's Toolbox brand in all communications.
- Mentorship: Provide high-level guidance and professional development for internal content writers and subject matter experts.
What You'll Bring:
We're looking for an exceptional individual whose career speaks for itself. You should have:
- Extensive NZ Industry Experience: 10–15 years of senior editorial experience within a major book publishing house (particularly educational or non-fiction) or the newspaper/journalism industry in New Zealand.
- Proven Longevity and Insight: While we're seeking 10–15 years of senior experience, a career span of 25+ years is highly likely for the calibre of candidate we need.
- Mastery of Language: Flawless English grammar, usage, and style, with a surgical eye for detail and ability to restructure and refine complex arguments for maximum impact.
- Tech Savvy: We're all about technology, so you'll have proven experience of working effectively within digital production pipelines and content management systems (CMS).
- NZ-Based: You must be based in New Zealand with the legal right to work here.
- Leadership Presence: An authoritative, collaborative, and decisive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven EdTech environment.
If you're ready for a role where your experience will shape the writing skills of the next generation, we want to hear from you.
In return we offer:
- A competitive remuneration package, including free health insurance for you and discounted premiums for your immediate family
- A conveniently located Head Office in Epsom with free street parking around
- The chance to join a purpose driven and friendly team
Please respond with a CV and covering letter explaining why you'd be a great fit.
