Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

We're looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect to shape the future of technology at the Ministry. This is a pivotal role that will influence how technology enables our people and supports the Ministry's mission to protect and enhance Aotearoa's environment. While developing and implementing our digital strategy will become an important focus in the future, your immediate priority will be to establish the foundations and strategies that position the Ministry for long-term success.

As Our Enterprise Architect, You Will

• Lead the digital strategy, develop and maintain our technology roadmap and ensure it aligns with business priorities.
• Advise senior leadership (Tier 1–3) on technology direction, ensuring decisions are future-focused and value-driven.
• Champion business enablement, helping the Ministry leverage technology to deliver better outcomes for people and the environment.
• Security, Compliance & Risk Management: Make sure architecture decisions follow best practices to protect data, ensure privacy, meet compliance requirements, and maintain strong cybersecurity.
• Guide solution architecture and where necessary provide solution architecture support for key projects, ensuring practical and strategic alignment.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

• Proven experience in enterprise and solution architecture, ideally within the NZ government context.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms, integration, and security.
• Ability to engage confidently with senior leaders and communicate complex ideas clearly.
• A strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves when required.
• Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and modern delivery practices.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $166,575 to $202,236 pa.  Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
