The Faculty of Law
Waipapa Taumata Rau - The University of Auckland is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading university and one of the world's major research universities. Te Wāhanga Ture - The Auckland Law School is ranked in 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject as the best place to study law in New Zealand based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact; and again in the top 100 Law Schools internationally (QS 59=). It is the largest law school in New Zealand and has an international reputation for academic excellence.
Located in the Auckland City Campus, 810 Eden Crescent & Short Street, the faculty currently comprises some 50 full-time academic staff, including 15 professors, with expertise across a broad range of subject areas. It has high entry standards for its LLB and LLB (Honours) degrees and has an outstanding postgraduate programme.
The Law School enjoys excellent international links and a strong relationship nationally with the legal profession and judiciary. It is supported by the staff and resources of the Davis Law Library, New Zealand's leading legal research library. Leading scholars from top overseas universities often visit the Law School and teach courses for the LLM programme.
The Faculty hosts the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre for Indigenous Peoples and the Law; the New Zealand Centre for Legal Theory; the New Zealand Centre for Environmental Law; the New Zealand Centre for Human Rights Law, Policy and Practice; the Centre for Advancing Law and Technology Responsibly, the New Zealand Centre for Intellectual Property and the New Zealand Centre for Taxation. The Faculty also enjoys a close relationship with the Legal Research Foundation, whose journal, the New Zealand Law Review, is produced within the Law School.

The School is looking for a high quality researcher and innovative teacher who is prepared to also take on service and leadership roles within the faculty and university.
Applicants from all areas within the law discipline are welcome. However, the faculty is especially interested in applicants with expertise in teaching in areas such as Tikanga, Te Tiriti, public law, and Part One courses.
This is a full time, 40 hours per week, on a permanent employment contract. The salary range for this role is from Lecturer Step 1 NZ$97,831 - Lecturer Step 5 NZ$110,520 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

You are an energetic, can-do person with an LLB or equivalent and post-graduate law qualifications. A PhD in Law or another discipline is highly desirable. Teaching experience at undergraduate and post-graduate level is desirable.
