Case Manager For Opioid Treatment Service
16 hours ago
Location: Level 1, 113 Adelaide Road, Mt Cook, Wellington
Contract: Permanent, Full time 1 FTE)
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
We are looking for a Registered Nurse or Registered Allied Health Clinician (ie Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Drug and Alcohol Clinician) to join our Opioid Treatment Service (OTS).
We are a community-based team that works with people who experience opioid dependence and the hazards and harms associated with this. The team conducts comprehensive assessments of opioid use, other addiction issues, mental health difficulties, physical health difficulties, social needs, and cultural needs. If substitution is indicated then people are administered substitution medications, initially at our clinic and then at community pharmacies. Once people are on substitution treatment, our Case Managers meet with them regularly to check the safety of the medications and ensure that other recovery goals are progressing.
We have very stable staffing levels and good workflow management, and this means that our caseloads are half the national average for an OTS service. These low caseloads mean that staff are able to be intentional when working with people, take on other roles of interest within the service, and work on their professional development goals.
About the Team/Service Location
Tūhonohono Addiction Services is a multidisciplinary team comprising of nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, an alcohol and drug clinician, medical personnel, and administration staff. We are a collective of skilled professionals that value working in a client and whānau centred manner, including cultural and community connections, to deliver high quality services. The team offers specialist services for adults experiencing addiction and mental health issues, with a focus on providing evidenced-based interventions. We strive to create a climate of safety for colleagues, and ourselves and have been found to be one of the most safe and supportive workplaces in Wellington District.
We are dedicated to staff development and run specialist in-service training, cultural supervisions, and comprehensive orientation packages. Our staff are encouraged and supported to complete further education and have completed Post-Grad. Certificates in areas such as Nursing and Motivational Interviewing.
About you
Previous experience of working in the Addiction Sector and/or Mental Health field is preferred. However, as our roles do not become available very often, so we are keen to find a good fit and would welcome a less experienced candidate who was able to develop rapidly.
An understanding of Te Ao Māori, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Tikanga, and Te Reo would be an advantage.
Duties
- Assess clients' addiction and mental health needs.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Engage clients in their recovery journey.
- Work effectively with addiction and mental health difficulties.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments and planning.
- Work closely with other services and NGO's.
Skills and experience
The successful applicant will have the following skills and attributes:
- Appropraite qualification related to discipline.
- Registration with appropraite professional organisation.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to relate well to a wide variety of people.
