Red Door Recovery is a private, abstinence-based residential rehabilitation service providing holistic and person-centred support for individuals recovering from addiction. Our philosophy ingrates evidence-based treatment with the following models: Te Whare Tapa Whā, Biopsychosocial Model of Addiction, and Therapeutic Community.

The Addictions Counsellor will play a key role in delivering Red Door Recovery's day programme and providing one-on-one therapeutic support to clients. This role combines clinical skill, creativity, and emotional intelligence to support clients in their recovery journeys, facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, and contribute to our holistic, trauma-informed model of care.

Required:

  • Bachelor of Addictions Studies (or equivalent qualification in counselling, psychology, or social work)
  • Demonstrated experience in addiction treatment or residential rehabilitation settings
  • Experience facilitating group therapy, group programmes and providing one-on-one counselling
  • Experience working with individuals with criminal history and involvement with the justice system
  • Knowledge of physical health complications related to addiction
  • Understanding of multiple recovery approaches, including 12-step (NA/AA), DBT (Dialetical Behaviour Therapy), psychotherapeutic, medication-assisted treatment, and social/community based recovery models
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of Te Whare Tapa Whā and other Māori and Pasifika models of wellbeing
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Current driver's licence

Preferred:

  • Experience working with Aotearoa's rainbow individuals, with awareness of the intersection between identity, mental health, and addiction
  • Lived experience of addiction and sustained recovery
  • Experience in small organisations

Supervision and Support

This position will report directly to the Manager and Managerial Team, and works closely with the Clinical Team for case consultation, supervision, and unified therapeutic planning. Clinical supervision costs are covered by Red Door Recovery; counsellors are responsible for arranging their own approved supervisor.
