Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Livestock Representative to join our successful Mid/South Canterbury Livestock team, predominantly based out of Timaru. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity to begin your long and successful career in the agricultural sector.
This position will start in early January 2026.
About the role
This traineeship is a great foundation to begin your career. This full-time role will introduce you to all the facets of PGG Wrightson's successful livestock business.
Under the guidance of our experienced livestock agents and managers across the country, and through a structured programme of modules and assessments designed to provide you with a broad generalist understanding and ability, you will be exposed to everything - from sales and technical knowledge through to client management and systems.
You will learn about:
- What makes a successful livestock representative or agent
- Qualitative and quantitative technical assessments of livestock
- Quoting, contracts, systems, online trading platforms (bidr), and processes that support our commercial operations
- Other specialist livestock areas such as deer/velvet, genetics, and standardbred
- End-to-end systems of the livestock supply chain
- Compliance and legislation that play a key role in the industry.
We are looking for candidates with:
- Enthusiasm and a passion for the New Zealand agriculture industry
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Confident computer and technical skills
- A passion for sales, good stockmanship, and a willingness to learn at every opportunity
- The ability to grasp new concepts quickly and be physically fit
- A basic understanding of the agricultural industry and current challenges - some practical farming experience would be advantageous but not essential
- A full, current, and clean New Zealand driver's licence.
