About the role

We're seeking dedicated Orchard Supervisors to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of our orchard's infrastructure and teams. The role combines practical supervision in the field with administrative support—including budgeting, procurement, contractor liaison, documentation, coordination of staff and equipment, and at times hands-on assistance with required tasks—to keep our sites running safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Key responsibilities

  • Support daily orchard operations through administrative tasks: scheduling, rostering, timesheets, and weekly productivity reports.
  • Procure tools, PPE, and supplies (e.g., spray, machinery servicing, irrigation specialists).
  • Maintain accurate documentation: H&S records, incident/near-miss reports, QA checks, training logs, chemical and hygiene registers, and equipment service logs.
  • Coordinate staff and equipment during seasonal block changes and relocations to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Liaise with growers/clients and senior management on work requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Lead a multicultural team on orchard tasks (pruning, thinning, picking, canopy management).
  • Ensure production targets and quality specs (fruit size, maturity, harvest window) are met, report variances.
  • Conduct on-site inductions; reinforce SOPs, hygiene/PSA protocols, and client expectations.
  • Oversee operation of tractors and orchard machinery as required.
  • Plan and run regular toolboxes/H&S meetings; ensure first-aid and safety supplies are maintained and accessible.
  • Enforce company H&S policies; conduct spot-checks for PPE and safe work practices.

Requirements

  • NZQF Level 2 or 3 or equal qualification, or
  • One-year relevant experience for supervising in orchards, horticulture, farming or any other field environments.
  • Confident leader and communicator across diverse teams, clients, and management.
  • Sound problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills; able to meet targets.
  • Competent with basic computer systems (timesheets, spreadsheets, email).
