The Opportunity | Te āheinga

As the Principal Architect, you'll take the technical lead on a major digital-transformation initiative for a global enterprise customer. Embedded across product squads and collaborating closely with senior stakeholders, you'll shape the architecture vision, guide engineering practices, and ensure best-in-class Azure adoption across the programme.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to influence strategy, uplift capability, and steer large-scale cloud modernisation from end to end.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing and guiding Azure-centric architectures across landing zones, micro-services, data and event-driven platforms for business-critical systems.
  • Defining domain boundaries, integration patterns and API contracts to support global scale, resilience and performance.
  • Driving DevOps and GitOps practices, embedding IaC (Terraform/Bicep), automated testing, blue/green deployment strategies and cost-optimisation principles.
  • Leading architecture conversations with executives, product owners, delivery partners and international teams, and providing governance across sprints and releases.
  • Coaching and developing engineering talent—sharing patterns, architectural approaches, and technical thought leadership across internal communities.

What You'll Bring | Ngā pūkenga

  • Proven experience architecting cloud-native, micro-services or event-driven platforms on Microsoft Azure at enterprise scale (multi-region, 5k+ users).
  • Strong grounding in modern API and container-based architectures and confidence working with teams running orchestration technologies (deep Kubernetes expertise not required).
  • Solid software-architecture fundamentals—DDD, messaging, REST/GraphQL—along with a practical understanding of infra, networking and security.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear direction for executive stakeholders and engineering teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Understanding of Zero-Trust, DevSecOps and FinOps disciplines.
  • Microsoft Azure Architect or DevOps certifications.
  • Exposure to AKS or other orchestration platforms (beneficial, not essential).
