- Diverse and dynamic position
- Innovative, collaborative team environment
- Outstanding benefits and flexible work options
About Us
Our diverse communities make Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt a place of excitement and opportunity. Come join us at Hutt City Council where, as connectors, creators and leaders, we support our neighbourhoods to become the architects of their future.
About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Emergency Management Advisor to join our team. In this role you'll support the Emergency Management Lead and work closely with Council teams, Mana Whenua, community groups, and emergency management partners to strengthen our city's readiness and resilience. You'll be involved in a mix of planning, relationship-building, and practical initiatives, including:
- supporting emergency management planning and documentation
- contributing to training, exercises, and capability building
- helping coordinate work with external agencies and community partners
- supporting projects that improve systems, processes, and ways of working
- contributing to work that honours and strengthens Council's relationship with Mana Whenua.
About You
We're looking for someone with experience in emergency management, who enjoys working with people and improving how things are done. You'll bring:
- working knowledge of CIMS (or proven ability to be able to build this type of skill quickly)
- solid planning and organisational skills
- confidence building relationships across diverse groups
- ability to influence and support positive change
- a calm, structured approach when things are busy or uncertain.
You're naturally curious and open to new ways of working. You don't need to be an expert in every tool, but you're comfortable learning and using technology that supports emergency response and planning (for example GIS platforms, communications tools, and emerging AI tools like ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot).
You'll also understand the importance of supporting vulnerable groups in our community, before, during and after emergency events.
Emergency events don't always occur during business hours. The Advisor will take part in our after-hours duty arrangements and may be called on to support coordination and response during weather-related or other emergency incidents.
What We Offer
We recognise that rewarding you is not only about pay. We offer a range of benefits and flexible work options. You can read more about our total rewards here:
Applications close on Tuesday 16 December 2025 at 11.55pm. Please note that we may review applications before the closing date and encourage you to apply as soon as possible. We reserve the right to withdraw the job advertisement at any time.
