As a Leading Hand, you will be working as part of our dedicated water maintenance team, delivering the most efficient and quality-driven service possible to our clients. If you're looking for a mix of both leading and organising the team, as well as you don't mind getting your hands dirty and getting on the tools from time to time, you might be just what we're looking for.

The role is full-time (minimum 40 hours), permanent, paying an hourly wage between $ $33.38 an hour, dependent on experience and/or qualifications. This role is offered as part of a union; there are opportunities to earn overtime, penal rates, and stand-by rates. 

Your key duties will include:

  • Supervising, planning and managing water reticulation team

  • Ensuring we meet contract specifications and client expectations

  • Leading the training and development of staff

  • Promoting a culture of safety in our work environment ensures that everyone can return home safely to their loved ones each night.

About you:

  • Class 1 and preferably Class 2 (HT) Driver's License

  • An NZ Registered Level 4 qualification, or a minimum of three years' relevant experience in either water, wastewater or stormwater networks could substitute a formal qualification

  • Proven ability and competence in the care, maintenance and operation of plant and equipment

  • Computer skills, being able to operate and input data into a mobile field device

  • Strong communication, both verbal and written, with team lead experience

  • Ability to work in a team, with a great Health & Safety track record
