Senior Adviser Capability and Guidance/Kaitohutohu Matamua - Aheitanga, Tohutohu
We have a fixed term Senior Adviser role in our small and dynamic Capability and Engagement (C&G) team which can be filled either at 0.8 or full time.
This is a parental cover, starting in January 2026 and concluding at the end of November 2026.
We are open to supporting a secondment into this position as a development opportunity for the right person.
The indicative base salary is $90,000 to $125,000 FTE, pay for the successful applicant will be based on relevant skills, experience and internal relativities.
The role - Ko te turanga
Helping agencies do privacy well in a self-sustaining way is one of our strategic goals, we do this using a privacy risk management systems approach.
You will be contributing to the development of privacy guidance resources, providing advice to agencies on a 1:1 basis, undertaking statutory consultations where an agency is required to consult with us before undertaking an operational activity, looking at the design and use of information sharing arrangements, and supporting our education and engagement programme delivered to agencies and entities across the motu .

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is Aotearoa New Zealand's independent privacy regulator, protecting the taonga that is personal information. We identify and address systemic and population-scale privacy issues, increase good privacy practice, and champion the privacy rights of all New Zealanders.

What you bring - Nga pumanawatanga ou
- a relevant tertiary qualification
- at least 3 years relevant experience, e.g. in operational policy, producing advice and guidance to agencies
- a confident communicator, at ease developing strong professional relationships and engaging with diverse stakeholders
- superior writing skills and the ability to translate complex legal and other concepts into plain language
- awareness and respect of Te Ao Maori and other cultural issues, and the ability to reflect these sensitively in your professional practice
- good time and project management skills, comfortable working to meet deadlines
